CEF alumni Chris Mercer recently shared his story with It Takes A Village, a campaign run by the Community Council for Australia. The campaign aims to encourage Australians to recognise that we all have a role to play in the education of our country’s young people.
Growing up in country NSW, Chris’ dream of working in the theatre seemed unrealistic to him. But, with the support of a range of people in his village, Chris broke through the barriers and has gone onto work in some of the most prestigious theatres in the world.
Watch Chris explain how his career and life trajectory was impacted by CEF’s belief in him.
A generous thank you to Chris Mercer, It Takes A Village, the Community Council for Australia and the Origin Foundation for your time and effort in facilitating this wonderful video.
Tim Costello, chair of the Community Council of Australia, says: “We know that education has the power to transform the opportunities and life outcomes of children and communities. Teachers, parents and government all clearly play a vital role in our young people’s education, but so do many other people in our lives – the people in our ‘village’.
“The It Takes a Village – Education is everyone’s business campaign, is a community-led national media and social media storytelling campaign that will highlight the positive role caring communities can play in helping our young people realise optimistic and confident futures.”
