The strength of the CEF network lies in the delicate balance of individual diversity, and each local CEF foundation’s collective goal.
Our volunteers possess all manner of talents, skills and interests. Take CEF Namoi, a committee who humbly admits to talents including child wrangling, event planning, cooking delicious treats and one with the voice of an angel.
As with all our committees, it is what volunteers have in common that drives local foundation success. When asked, CEF Namoi identifies these as generosity, motivation, and the unwavering dedication to make the education journey easier for their local young people.
CEF Namoi in the beginning
Jocellin Jansson, a Narrabri local and former CEF CEO, was the passionate advocate for educational equity indentifying the significant need of their youth. In 2002, Jocellin formed a dynamic committee and established CEF Namoi (formally Narrabri Education Foundation).
Today CEF Namoi is considered a worthy and reliable charity, working with the local community for the local youth.
Local grants and national funding
CEF Namoi applications are now open to local youth (16-25 years) who will undertake further education. This study can be an apprenticeship, traineeship, diploma, or degree. If you live or attended school in the local area and you can demonstrate need, you are eligible to apply for a local grant.
Funding these students is firstly thanks to the generosity of local businesses and individuals who sponsor and donate to CEF Namoi. Being part of the national CEF network, local students may also be eligible for further national funding thanks to the educational, corporate, and philanthropic partnerships of national office.
“I’m honoured to be able to support the young people of our community to achieve their education dreams whilst simultaneously investing in the future of our region.” Angela Young – CEF Namoi, School & Corporate Donor Liaison
William McIlrath Foundation – CEF Scholarship
Eligible CEF Namoi students, who are enrolled in an undergraduate course in NSW for 2021 may be eligible for the newly established William McIlrath Foundation-CEF scholarship.
This scholarship is valued at $22,000 over three years to support those students who may not have been able to pursue further study and is thanks to the William McIlrath Charitable Foundation. Click here to find out more.
The question of selection
Each of our volunteers work diligently to identify the worthiest recipients. After the shortlisting process, students are interviewed, so the committee really understands their circumstances and aspirations.
Rebecca Thistlethwaite, CEF Namoi secretary explains, “When you know the background of some of our applicants, it amazes me how resilient, resourceful and driven they are. The first in their family to finish high school, the first to go on to further education, emancipated, and supporting themselves financially while undertaking the HSC. And nobody knows this until they ask the right questions.”
CEF committees know their community well and believe in delivering the best opportunities for students to reach their goals.
